A pair of the new Apple AirPods are seen during a launch event on September 7, 2016 in San Francisco, California. Apple Inc. unveiled the latest iterations of its smart phone, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the Apple Watch Series 2, as well as AirPods, the tech giant's first wireless headphones.

Various sources explained that the new Amazon AirPods Raffle scam will send a text message to their unsuspecting victims. Once the users received the message, it will inform them that they are one of the lucky ones who won a free pair of the popular Apple AirPods.

The new scam's main goal is to trick people that it is from Amazon.

On the other hand, security experts stated that the new malicious act not only offers AirPods but also other Apple gadgets such as the Apple Watch, which is one of its most commonly offered prizes.

Is the New Amazon AirPods Raffle Scam That Serious?

According to ScreenRant's latest report, Apple's AirPods is still one of the most popular devices from the tech giant. People usually buy this wearable gadget so that they can listen to podcasts and music.

As of the moment, the latest Apple wireless earphones model is the high-end AirPods Max. However, some users don't have the budget to purchase one since it is fairly expensive. Because of this, consumers still prefer buying the popular AirPods base model and AirPods Pro since they are much cheaper.

This is also the reason why the current Amazon raffle scam is offering AirPods and AirPods Pro since they are more realistic to have for free. Nevertheless, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has already issued an alert regarding the new AirPods raffle scam.

Since BBB has now taken an action, this means that the new Amazon AirPods Raffle scam is a serious one. If you haven't received it yet, then you should know that this new malicious activity involves sending a text message with a link.

The message will ask you to click the link and enter your Amazon account, as well as other sensitive details so that you will receive the free Apple devices offered. However, once you tap the link, you will be redirected to a phishing website.

How to Avoid the new AirPods Raffle Scam

If you want to avoid the new scams, all you need to do is follow these steps provided by DoDBuzz

  • The first thing you need to do is avoid texting back to any unfamiliar messages.
  • You also need to remember that if a text message contains a link, there's a high chance that it is a scam.
  • Aside from these, you should also remember that if a text message claims that it was sent by a company, it could also be a scam since most companies don't send personal text messages.
