In the recent PlayStation State of Play presentation, Insomniac Games released a new gameplay showcase featuring Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and it's got fans raving.
According to The Verge, Sony PlayStation revealed 16 minutes of new gameplay footage featuring all of the next-gen goodness that players can expect from the next Ratchet and Clank title. Title character Ratchet was shown traversing a new area, Nefarious City, which was packed with insane levels of detail-without a doubt made possible by the powerful hardware of the PlayStation 5.
Among the new additions involves the PS5's new DualSense controller, which allowed Insomniac Games to implement a fresh control scheme with the triggers. As stated in the gameplay demo posted on the official PlayStation blog, players can switch between a semi-automatic pistol mode and a full-auto mode by applying lighter or heavier pressure on the triggers.
There are likely even more revamped control schemes like this, but fans will have to wait until the game releases on June 11th for the PS5 to experience it all.
Fresh Visual And Gameplay Possibilities
Since the most recent Ratchet and Clank release back in 2016 for the PS4, Insomniac Games has had enough time to make sure that the sequel would take full advantage of the PS5's horsepower.
A closer look at the trailer reveals just how impressive Rift Apart will look on Sony's current-gen console. The reflections and the lighting show immense levels of detail that last-gen graphics can't compare with. This is likely due to the PS5's ray tracing capabilities, though Insomniac Games still hasn't confirmed if Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart does support ray tracing.
Aside from that, the game also gives players new, open-ended levels to explore, Clank puzzles to use their noggins on, aerial combat (which opens up even more gameplay possibilities), and arena combat modes, to name a few. There's also another first for the long-time PlayStation-exclusive series: a photo mode which fans can use to show off their loot and the amazing detail of the world.
On-Point Voice Acting and Music
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is banking a lot on their new character, Rivet, who basically looks and plays like a female version of Ratchet (she is a fellow Lombax, after all). But if you feel like her voice sounds a little bit familiar, it's because as an avid gamer, you've probably heard it before.

Rivet is voiced by the legendary voice actress Jennifer Hale, who's already an industry icon in her own right. As stated in a report on PushSquare.com, Hale was officially announced as Rivet's voice actress in Insomniac Games' Twitter page. As one of the most prolific voice actors in history, she is most well-known for her performance as Mass Effect's Commander Shepard. She also voiced the hero Ashe in Overwatch, Samus Aran in Metroid Prime, and Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid series, to name a few. We could try to list all her voice roles, but we'd be sitting here until the next day.
Lastly, composing the game's soundtrack is the job of another industry legend: Mark Mothersbaugh. Now, a lot of people might not know the name, but Mothersbaugh is actually a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who's already composed music for another PS exclusive series: Crash Bandicoot, according to GamesRadar. Aside from this work, Mothersbaugh also composed the music for the massively popular MCU flick Thor: Ragnarok.
