Epic Games decided to sue Nreal, a Chinese AR gadget developer. The giant game developer claimed that its AR wearable device's name is violating trademark rules and policies.

The announcement marks the first time new CEO Tim Cook introduced a new product since Apple co-founder Steve Jobs resigned in August.
This is currently bad news for the Chinese manufacturer since it is about to release its NREAL augmented reality glasses in the United States.
On the other hand, the popular game company said that it has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the AR gadget developer since the name "Nreal Light" is too close to its multiple "Unreal Engine" platform.
Epic Games also said that the name copyright is not the only issue presented. The game developer also alleged that there's also an overlap between Epic's and Nreal's products.
Epic Games' filed lawsuit claims that Nreal has already developed a game for its Nreal Light. The giant game firm added that its AR glasses website includes the Unreal Engine as one of three development platforms.

According to PCGamer's latest report, there are various reasons why the popular game developer behind "Fortnite" and other shooting titles sued the Chinese tech firm.

"Nreal's use of NREAL, a trademark that looks and sounds virtually identical to Epic's UNREAL trademark, in connection with products that overlap with Epic's UNREAL-branded products and services is likely to confuse consumers," said Epic Games.
"Not only has Nreal aimed its first product at a segment into which Epic has already entered, Nreal's plans include further encroachment on Epic's rights," added the company.
Aside from this, the latest lawsuit filed by Epic Games also warned that Nreal is also planning to use its trademark for the development and design of new virtual reality software and computer game system.
If this really happens, there's a high chance that Nreal will be a direct competitor to the Unreal Engine of Epic Games.
When Will NREAL Light Arrive in the US?
SlashGear reported that the new NREAL Light AR glasses device is expected to arrive in the United States and Europe this coming quarter. Nreal revealed its AR device in 2019, claiming that it will offer some mixed reality features comparable to those offered by Magic Leap.
