The undercuts that a lot of smaller EVs on sale today include the reported Ford Mustang Mach-E compact utility vehicle. The new full-size, four-door truck reportedly shares its body along with the other Ford F-150 Lightning lineup. This is except for its closed-off grille as well as a full-width light bar on both the front and the rear. There are things, however, that are very different under the skin.

According to FoxNews, the frame has reportedly been beefed up along with stronger steel and reinforcements to house the EV's battery pack between the rails. This will then be offered in two different sizes, namely the 230 miles and 300 miles of range. The exact capabilities of the upcoming battery are still unannounced but what's known is that it weighs around 1,500 to 1,800 pounds.

The upcoming Ford F-150 Lightning features new dual inboard electric motors along with a combined output of a whopping 426 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque inside its standard-size battery model along with 563 hp as well as 775 lb-ft in the new extended range version, which is reportedly the most powerful of the F-150s ever since.

Ford now claims that the F-150 Lightning might accelerate to 60 mph within the mid-four-second range, which the Fox News Autos now confirmed during a certain test ride along with the chief engineer Linda Zhang finally behind the wheel. The battery can reportedly be filled from about 15 to 80% in just 41 minutes at a public fast-charging system as well as a rate of 30 miles of electricity an hour when using the new available 80-amp home charger.

F-150 FX4 Off-Road Package

The new F-150 Lightning would also feature the Ford F-150's very first fully independent suspension along with a maximum payload rating of 2,000 pounds as well as a top tow rating of a whopping 10,000 pounds. During a new demonstration on the said towing test track at Ford's own Michigan Proving Grounds, the new F-150 Lightning pulled a new 5,000-pound trailer up a massive 25% grade even without skipping a beat or even making much noise the particular way a conventional truck does as it reportedly shifts gears and revs its massive engine.

Although there still isn't a dedicated off road model, the new F-150 Lightning's motors and battery packs are reportedly waterproof and even fully protected by skid plates while the whole suspension borrows some new parts from the new F-150's FX4 off-road package. On a certain drive along a rough trail that is filled with large moguls, the new truck bottomed out quite a few times without any issue and a new independent suspension noticeably smoothed the whole ride compared to the other solid-axle F-150. A countdown video uploaded to YouTube reveals more about the EV pickup.
