At the recent Google I/O that happened just this week, the company actually revealed a number of new features that are expected to come to Google Photos. The company noted that despite the Photos' popularity, a number of the 4 trillion pictures stored would never even be viewed.

Google Photos Passwords

According to TNW, the new features try to make the most out of the photos that users would not normally look back at. This includes the addition of a new private image folder as well as a few newfangled ways of showing off the menial or redundant pictures.

Google is finally introducing a new Locked Folder for its images that users would rather hide behind a biometric authentication or password. Locked Folders are reportedly launching first on the Google Pixel devices, according to the TNW, and will arrive on a number of new Android devices throughout the whole year.

Google Cinematic Photos

Google Pixel devices will reportedly also be able to directly save the users' photos to the locked folder found right from the camera. Google had previously launched the cinematic photos sometime in December, which is a feature that could make the stills a bit more 3D through the use of a motion element.

Google is now expanding this feature by allowing users to incorporate a number of images into a new slow-motion animated image. Chances are users might have seen the effect on TV commercials and others. Achieving this feature is kind of hard to do in traditional video software.

Google AI Effects

Google AI can do the effects automatically. Google notes that a number of people take either two or three photos when capturing a new moment in order to get the perfect shot. Cinematic photos allow the extra shots in order to not go to waste, as Google will recognize some similar images as well as automatically create the said animations. Users can then share the video with family and friends.

It now turns out Google AI is actually pretty good at recognizing certain patterns. Google has noticed that some people have a tendency to take certain photos of other similar objects or other subjects which are habits that users might not even notice anything by themselves. Google is collecting these in mini albums which the company calls Little Patterns.

Google Photos and Google Memories

For example, the company noted that Google tends to take photos of its own orange backpack, while yet another had a tendency to take photos of other circular objects. The collection of certain patterns will show up on the Google Photos feed alongside the Google Memories as well as some other highlights.

The new Google Photos feature will improve the privacy of its users by adding the Google Photos password. The new feature would at least allow another layer of protection for its users.
