Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is highly anticipated by fans and it is said to arrive within the next few months.

When the device does turn up it might not have any physical buttons attached, or at least that is the suggestion from a fairly recently published Samsung patent.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Leaked Patent

According to LetsGoDigital, the patent of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 shows that instead of actual, physical buttons, the handset is controlled with capacitive, non-moving, embedded buttons and gestures.

The feature would be very useful when the folding phone is in its closed state, when the two sides of the device are next to each other, that gives users twice as much space to work on with one the edge of the gadget, and having capacitive buttons and gesture control might be a more intuitive option than the conventional approach.

By incorporating side panels that can accept taps, squeezes, and swipes, Samsung would be able to expand the number of controls and features that can be accessed whether the phone is open or closed, if it can successfully pull off the implementation of the tech.

The patent of the device was filed in November 2020, but there is no clear indication of whether this is going to be ready in time for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 launch.

The latest leaks and rumors point to an August debut for the foldable, together with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.

If this button-less technology is not ready for this year's foldable phones, fans of the device might well see it appear in 2022.

At this point, Samsung seems very much committed to the form factor, and the company looks likely to launch at least a couple of bending smartphones for the next few years.

Numerous rumors and leaks have given fans some idea of what to expect from this year's Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is a follow-up to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 that was launched last year.

In some areas, like charging speeds, fans might no see much of an upgrade at all.

However, fans are expecting some upgrades in the camera department, especially the Z Fold 3 is now being tipped to come with an under-display selfie camera that should improve the overall aesthetics of the foldable device, as per TechRadar.

Mass Production

According to Sam Mobile, Samsung is planning to ship 7 million units combined of its new foldable phones this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are both expected to be launched together in July.

Samsung aims to sell 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 alone. With no Galaxy Note 21 this year, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 featuring an S Pen and more refinement, there is a good chance that it may meet that target.

The South Korean tech giant also expects to ship up to 4 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. That is also possible because the clamshell foldable has a much lower price than the Z Fold.

The combined target of 7 million foldable units is more than twice the 2.5 million foldable smartphones that Samsung shipped in 2020.
