Amazon finally turns 27 years old! The company started literally in the garage of the famed founder, Jeff Bezos and is now a $1.77 trillion e-commerce titan!

Jeff Bezos Almost Named Amazon Differently

According to PocketAndroid, the company started in the humble garage of Jeff Bezos' house at Northeast 28th Street in Bellevue, Washington. The company started all the way back in 1994 by Jeff Bezos and has grown massively into the e-commerce giant it is today.

What some people don't know is that Jeff Bezos didn't immediately settle on Amazon.com but toyed with a number of different names. One of the names the company was supposed to be known as was Cadabra, which was changed later on since it still sounded way too similar to "cadaver." Bezos also almost settled on the name "Relentless" but then finally decided to settle on Amazon due to the different and exotic nature of the popular South American river.

What was the First Book Amazon Sold?

The start was extremely difficult as it took a full year before the company had finally sold its very first book called "Fluid Concepts & Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought." Before the company finally became a $1.77 Trillion dollar company, there were also a number of other milestones it had to go through.

It is also important to remember that the company went public at just $18 a share! This is nothing compared to what NASDAQ puts the company as today. At the moment of this writing, the company is already worth a whopping $3,510.98!

Amazon Growth during the Early 2000s

Amazon also took another great leap towards success as the company had officially launched in Europe some time in October 1998. The company, however, started skyrocketing in 2000. By the year 2002, the company was able to launch the Amazon Web Services.

By December of 2003, Amazon was able to report its first full-year profit reaching a whopping $35.3 million. Still, coming from a tech point of view, Amazon's greatest moments started happening in February 2005. This was when the company started to launch its very own Prime subscription program.

Amazon Prime and Other Offerings

After six years, users finally saw the arrival of video to the popular Amazon Prime subscription. Come 2014, users also saw the launch of one of the most popular smart speakers in the market, Echo. This came along with an even more popular digital assistant, Alexa.

Although Amazon has already done a lot, the company is not stopping now! Just six years ago, Amazon started to open different physical stores as well as bookstores which were called Amazon Books. Five years ago, the company even started to deliver products through the use of drones.

As of the moment, where Amazon would be in the future is still anyone's guess. With a company worth $1.77 Trillion dollars, it's amazing how it all started in a garage.
