Intel announced that it would pave the way for one of its famous chip architects - Shlomit Weiss.

The company is planning to rebuild its client chip section, and there is no better way to do it than to ask a veteran architecture to lead the team.

Why Intel Wants Her Back

The company CEO Pat Gelsinger is working on rebuilding the company's engineering roster, and Weiss will be a massive addition to the company's engineering team.

According to Tom's Hardware, she will be the lead executive on Intel's chip development and design. It also seems like Weiss will replace Uri Frank, who recently left the company to be the head of Google's SoC team.

Weiss spent four years in Silicon Engineering as the Mellanox/Nvidia Senior Vice President. She was responsible for running the company's networking chip design team, a group composed of over 1,000 people.

Shlomit Weiss' Achievements in Intel

However, her achievements at Intel before being a Senior Vice President are just as impressive.

During Weiss' tenure era at Intel, she got Intel's Achievement Award, which the company considered the highest award. The company recognized her efforts in the development of Intel's dual-core architecture. She was then entrusted with leading her team and developed the company's famous Skylake and Sandy Bridge processors.

Shlomit Weiss' Role in Intel

In 2021, Weiss will rejoin Intel as its Senior Vice President and Co-General Manager of Design Engineering Group or DEG. She will also be responsible for checking in on the entire company's client chip development and its design processes.

Tom's Hardware also reported that Weiss would also cover Uri Frank's previous role. She will also work with Sunil Shenoy, who is also a long-term veteran at Intel who recently joined the company again.

Shenoy is given the task to co-manage the DEG together with Weiss in Israel. Although the division of responsibilities is still unclear, time will tell about their respective duties.

Intel's Respectable Architects

According to the report, Intel's most respectable architectures usually hail from the company's Israel design teams.

On the other hand, Gelsinger constantly focuses on revamping the company's design teams, and it is seen on the heels of his most recent data center group. As a result, the long-time DGP leader Navin Shenoy had to depart.

Tom's Hardware also mentioned that Gelsinger obviously relies on experience on proven Intel veterans in rebuilding the company after suffering years of missteps and wrong directions.

Shlomit Weiss on Her Appointment

Weiss stated that she is highly thrilled to rejoin Intel, the place that she called home for 28 years. She emphasized that the company is where she grew and developed professionally and as a person.

Weiss has an M.Sc. and honors in Electrical Engineering. She also holds a first degree in Computer Science, hailing from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
