The person who recorded the video was disapproving of how American Airlines handled the situation.
What Made The Video Go Viral?
The viral TikTok video showed a woman flying American airlines duct-taped to her chair after reportedly attacking flight attendants as she attempted to open the plane's front door during mid-flight.
The incident happened on American Airlines Flight 1774, traveling from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday, July 6. A TikTok user @lol.ariee filmed the video; the content showed a woman duct-taped around her chest as she screams at passengers who are departing the plane right after it landed.

Follow Up Explanation Video
@lol.airee explains in a follow-up video regarding all the commotion, saying that halfway during the flight, "all flight attendants were running up and down the aisles, frantically kind of like whispering to each other."
The crew then started to lock bathrooms, grabbed bags from overhead bins, but wouldn't say what was going on. @lol.airee said, "It was just kind of like chaos and no one knows what's going on."
The pilot then finally addressed the worried and confused passengers and asked them to remain on their seats because of a "bad situation in the plane," without explaining further still as Daily Dot reported.
Another follow-up video was that user @lol.ariee said she believes that the woman had a mental illness of some kind and that she was not in control of the situation after many TikTok users said that maybe the woman was a "Karen."
What Happened to the Woman?
A flight attendant explained that when the plane was about to land, a woman was apparently going through a mental breakdown, shouting that she needed to get off the plane and started an outburst. She went up and down the exits and started banging on the airplane doors shouting, "You need to let me off this plane!"
The woman was said to have been violent to the flight attendants. She attacked, bit, and spat on them as they tried to subdue her--ultimately using duct tape to "take her down" and shut her mouth with it.
At the time of writing, the viral TikTok video now has over 4.3 million views with 400 thousand likes and four thousand comments. The video shows a woman screaming, and as user @lol.ariee exited the plane, medical personnel and a police officer were waiting in the entrance as the passengers slowly departed the plane.
American Airlines spoke to Insider, saying that she indeed attempted to open the forward door and physically assaulted a flight attendant that caused an injury.
"We applaud our crew for their professionalism and quick effort to protect those on board," wrote the spokesperson.
