"Call of Duty," "The Last of Us," "Infinity War," and PlayStation talented veteran developers have joined forces to create a new game development studio that goes by the name That's No Moon Entertainment Inc.

As per ComicBook, the South Korean video game publisher, which produced "Crossfire" known as Smilegate, backs the independent studio with a whopping $100 million investment.

However, That's No Moon remains to be an independent entity--albeit the monetary allocation.

It is worth noting that "Crossfire" was once the highest-grossing video game in history, garnering about 670 million players. Not to mention the popular game achieved impressive revenue to the tune of $12 billion.

The new independent gaming studio will be composed of prominent personalities behind numerous popular video game titles.

The CEO of the new studio is Michael Mumbauer, who formed the visual arts service group of the Sony PlayStation, leading to the successful remake of "The Last of Us.

It is important to point that "The Last of Us Part II" was hailed the 2020 Ultimate Game of the Year.

Also, another former Sony exec, Tina Kowalewski, who was previously the head of the product development at the Sony Santa Monica, serves as the Chief Strategy Officer of the That's No Moon.

The bulk of devs included some folks behind games such as "The Last of Us Part II" as well as the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare," including the creative director of the first project of the new studio, Taylor Kurosaki, who is formerly part of the "Infinity Ward" team.

Plus, the game director of the pioneering game of the studio, Jacob Minkoff, previously worked for the "Naughty Dog."

Independent Studio That's No Moon: What To Expect

According to IGN, the studio is already working on its first game title.

However, That's No Moon only gave away vague details about it, saying that it is "an ambitious, new action-adventure game that will push the limits of both gameplay and story."

The independent studio CEO further said that their vision is anchored on weaving compelling stories and characters, which will push the limits of their medium.

Mumbauer went on to boast that the endeavor consists of talented veteran devs, saying that their experience is "unlike anything seen before.

The exec also acknowledges Smilegate as their "incredible partner."

Moreover, in the long term, the goal of the studio is to build a bigger team, accounting for about a hundred in 2022.
