Snapchat has evolved into more than just a social media platform where users can share short videos. Its Snap Map, for example, not only tells you where your friends are, it now helps you find popular places to visit.

Snap Map's My Places feature lets users on the social media platform find over 30 million businesses such as bars and restaurants.

Users can also log into places they visit and even get personalized recommendations.

"We're introducing a new way for Snapchatters to explore the world with Snap Map," Snapchat said in a post published on its newsroom website.

Snapchat Snap Map's My Places Feature: How it Works

Snapchat Snap Map's My Places feature also lets users view lists of places they've favorited on the social media app or tagged in past posts.

According to the post published on the Snapchat newsroom website, Snapchatters simply have to look for the new Places button in the app to access the new Snapchat Snap Map. There is also a Popular tab that will show recommendations for places you can check out.

These recommendations from Snapchat Snap Map's My Places feature are based on factors such as your current location, places you have saved as favorites, and friend activity on Snap Map.

"This new algorithm in our Popular Tab sets Snap Map apart as a highly personalized discovery platform, and is a first-of-its-kind feature for Snapchat, overall," according to a Snapchat representative quoted in a report by The Verge

Snapchat Snap Map's Ticketmaster and The Infatuation Layers

Snapchat is making it easier for Snapchatters to discover the world around them using the Snap Map. Last May, the social media app announced a new product called Layers during the Snap Partner Summit.

Layers will allow Snapchatters to add data from partner developers to their Snap Map on the social media platform. Users will be able to customize the points-of-interest that they can see on their Snap Map.

Two Layers have been announced by Snapchat during the announcement at Snap Partner Summit last May, according to a report by TechCrunch. The first of the two is the Ticketmaster Layer, which will let Snapchatters browse through concerts and events at nearby venues on the social media app.

Restaurant review site The Infatuation also partnered with the social media platform for a Layer that lets users access "editorialized recommendations for nearby restaurants with lists and reviews from the site."
