Showtime's gothic drama Penny Dreadful is returning for a second season on April 26. That's still a ways off, so the network is easing the wait with a new, creeptastic trailer for season two that might actually make the wait for the premiere seem even longer.

Season two will see Eva Green's character, Vanessa, form a deeper relationship with Josh Hartnett's werewolf character, Ethan, as the group--which includes Dr. Frankenstein, Sir Malcolm and Sembene--unites to banish dark forces that threaten to destroy them.

The trailer doesn't spill many details, instead only offering glimpses of events we will see later this year. Guest stars this season will include Patti LuPone as a character from Vanessa's past, and Helen McCrory is returning as the spiritualist Evelyn Poole. Poole will serve as the primary villain for season two.

"This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace," series creator and executive producer John Logan says to SuperHeroHype. "Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together."

No matter what happens in season two, the image of McCrory's character snuffing her cigarette in a pool of blood is one fans won't be forgetting any time soon.
