Amazon Inc. is currently in a hot seat after the European Union privacy agency decided to file a lawsuit against the giant retailer for allegedly illegal user personal data collection activities.
The government department announced that the giant tech firm needs to settle a whopping $888, which is the biggest fine that the giant reseller received for the past years. Prosecutors claimed that Amazon violated a European Union data-privacy law, which targeted advertising activities.
The lawsuit began after the Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) issued a decision against the giant Amazon Europe Core last July 16.
CNPD accused the giant tech retailer of personal processing data, even though the activity doesn't comply with EU General Data Protection Regulation.
"On July 16, 2021, the Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection (the "CNPD") issued a decision against Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l. claiming that Amazon's processing of personal data did not comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation," explained Amazon Inc. via BGR.
Amazon To Pay the Million-Dollar Fine
According to Bloomberg's latest report, although Amazon still rejects the accusation, the giant online retailer still confirmed that it will appeal the decision of the EU. However, this would certainly take some time before it is completely resolved.

"There has been no data breach, and no customer data has been exposed to any third party. These facts are undisputed. We strongly disagree with the CNPD's ruling," reiterated Amazon Inc.
The company added that the huge settlement is out of proportion since the EU still hasn't released strong evidence to show that the illegal user data collection is really happening in its platform.
Amazon is not the only one facing data-privacy lawsuits in Europe. Google, which currently holds the largest EU privacy penalty, is one of them. Facebook and other social media giants are also included.
Other Issues of Amazon
Another issue that the giant retailer is currently facing is about bypassing safety inspections. CNBC reported that many Amazon drivers claimed that their U.S.-based managers order them to avoid reporting the issues of their vans.
Aside from this, they added that they were asked to bypass inspections on a regular basis. Just like in the mentioned lawsuit against the retailer, Amazon also declined its drivers' accusations.
