Snapchat has been freaking out some of its users who had discovered that the app knows exactly when, where, and what time they were born. 

It is easier to think that the app developed some sort of new skill or feature that allowed it to magically and correctly guess all those details. The truth is, however, you yourself told the app all it needed to know. 

If you have used the app to check your horoscope, here is something you should know: that is how Snapchat knows all those details about your birth. 

How Does Snapchat Know Your Birth Details? Thanks to Your Horoscope

Snapchat requires you to give your exact birth date when you register for an account. That answers the question of how it knows when you were born. How it knows the exact time and location of your birth is thanks to its Astrological Profile feature.

"The feature requires exact birth date and time from each person in order to calculate their exact star chart reading," Snapchat told The Verge as quoted in an article. Snapchat's Astrology feature also asks for the location of your birth. 

All the details you had shared when you used Snapchat Astrology to check and share your horoscope has been stored on the app as "My Astrological Birthday." 

Has Snapchat Shared Your Birth Information?

You might be worried that now that Snapchat has all these important bits of information, it might have shared it with other people. You do not have to be concerned about that because that is not the case. 

According to The Verge's article, Snapchat said that they "take the privacy of personally identifiable information very seriously at Snap, and this more granular birth date and time information is used only for this astrological profile feature."

Snapchat can only share information if you want it to and Snapchat users can only search for content set to public. The most Snapchat can share about your birth details, per the article, is your birth date. That bit of information can be shared with just your friends as well. 

If it bothers you that Snapchat knows all these details about your birth, you can simply delete the time and location details.

What is Snapchat Astrology

Snapchat Astrology is a feature that the social media app launched in November of last year. It gives the user a different kind of experience beyond simply checking for his or her horoscope. 

A post on Snapchat Newsroom's website explicitly indicates that you have to "input your birth time and location." As previously mentioned, all these details you give Snapchat are then stored as "My Astrological Birthday" in the "Birthday" section located in the settings. 

Snapchat Astrology also lets users share and compare their Astrological Compatibility. All you have to do is to check the Friendship Profiles. 

According to Snapchat, "They'll show how your traits and personalities intersect across Attraction, Intensity, Tension, Support, and Harmony."

Your horoscope can also be easily downloaded to your phone or shared as a Snapchat Story others can view.
