Radeon may have just won the battle for 1080p gaming supremacy this time around.
Reviews for AMD's recently released Radeon RX 6600 XT are now out, and they are telling. Slated to go up directly against the NVIDIA RTX 3060, the AMD graphics card proved to be the better of the two in terms of delivering silky-smooth Full HD gaming, writes Digital Trends.
In an era where graphics cards have been hard to come by at reasonable prices, the new Radeon GPU could offer the best value so far out of almost everything else on the market. AMD made sure that their new Radeon card would perform well at the current dominant gaming resolution while also trying their best to alleviate supply issues by using a cut-down RDNA2 core.
While officially designated as "entry level," the card is more or less a mid-range performer due to how it performs. According to CNET's review, the Radeon RX 6600 XT is powerful enough to drive not just 60 FPS gaming at high-ultra settings but also higher frame rates and refresh rates.
Team Red officially announced the new Radeon card late last July after months upon months of rumors. They billed it as a 1080p card through and through, with sky-high performance expectations at the target resolution.
Radeon RX 6600 XT Vs RTX 3060, 3060 Ti: Performance Numbers
In the review by Tom's Guide, 1080p gaming benchmarks showed the Radeon RX 6600 XT demolishing the RTX 3060 in multiple games, and it's allegedly not even close. However, while it beats the pants off the 3060, it regularly falls behind the RTX 3060 Ti.
"Assassin's Creed Valhalla," which is one of the most demanding games of this generation even at 1080p, saw the AMD card score an average of 84 FPS with all the visuals cranked up to ultra at 1080p. NVIDIA's RTX 3060, on the other hand, logged a measly 64 FPS average.
All in all, Tom's Guide's benchmarks had the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT as the clear winner versus the RTX 3060 from NVIDIA at 1080p. That is barring a few games where the 3060 did score higher, though, such as "Grand Theft Auto V" and "Shadow of the Tomb Raider."
These numbers are also done in native 1080p testing. Given that AMD will most certainly implement FidelityFX support on this card, the performance numbers can go up even higher.
Is The Pricing Good Enough?
So far, the new Radeon card hasn't appeared much in online marketplaces. This means that only its MSRP of $379 can be used at the moment of this writing when it comes to pricing.
At MSRP, the AMD RX 6600 XT is more expensive than the NVIDIA RTX 3060, which is supposed to be priced at $329. However, the 3060's current street pricing from sites like eBay is still in the $600-$700 range. Assuming that the AMD card will stay well below the 3060's resale prices, then it will be the better deal of the two. But of course, that remains to be seen.
