Video gamers sometimes purchase games that they don't like. Luckily, Steam, a video game digital distribution powered by Valve, is known for its fast and generous refund policy.

With the Steam Game Festival coming up, there are bound to be a few games that you don't want to keep.

Most video game retailers do not have a refund policy for video games, especially once opened. What makes Steam different is that it can tell which account the game belongs to and for how long it's been played.

This system allows them to offer refunds as long as the players have not hit two major milestones while playing the game.

Before video game players can request a refund on Steam, there are two things that they should review first.

First, Steam offers guaranteed refunds on video games that have been purchased in the past 14 days. Second, the video game should only be played for less than two hours.

If you've exceeded the timeline and the number of hours required, Valve does not guarantee that they will accept your refund request, according to Business Insider.

Steam Request Refund Policy

The first thing that you need to do is check the playtime and the purchase date of the game. Steam does not allow refunds if players have owned the game for more than two weeks or played it for more than 2 hours, according to PC Strike.

As long as the player has not passed the milestones, the video game streaming service will refund the game in just seven days from the day of the request.

If the player has hit either of the two milestones, Valve would suggest that you submit a refund request and let the customer support department review your case.

To ask for a refund, click on your name and icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select "Account Details."

Players should select "Purchase History" on the screen before clicking on a game in their history. You can do these steps either on Steam's Website or Steam's Mobile app.

Next, the gaming service will check whether or not the game you selected is eligible for its refund policy.

If it is eligible, you will see "Choose a refund method," and you can select the payment method where you want your refund to go through.

For example, if you've used your Steam Wallet and put the rest on a credit card or debit card, you can select either one for your refund.

If you only used your credit or debit card, you will be able to choose to get a refund through your Steam Wallet.

How Fast Can You Get The Refund?

According to Steam, their refund process could take between 7 to 14 days. But it only takes a few hours for a refund to go through their system. It makes it easy for players to refund games, especially if they immediately request after purchasing them.

The process is pretty fast despite Steam having 26 million subscribers.

If the game is not eligible for a refund, you can continue with the process and have your request reviewed by someone from Valve. Just finish the process and fill out the form with why you're asking for a refund.
