AMD still hasn't announced their next-gen GPUs based on the RDNA3 architecture, but they might've just confirmed it indirectly.

WCCFTech reports that AMD added support for Navi 31 and Navi 33 GPUs to the ROCm GPUOpen Platform. The latest developer tools update was released for ROCm recently, wherein an eagle-eyed Twitter user called Komachi spotted the GPUs. Here is the tweet, which also announced the indirect confirmation of Rembrandt and Van Gogh APUs:

AMD is planning the Radeon Navi 31 and Radeon Navi 33 chips for its next-generation RX 7000 series. Judging by the way they've named their current graphics card models, it can be safe to assume that these cards will be the RX 7800 and RX 7900 series. There are also rumors that Team Red is foregoing the use of CUs (compute units) for their cards and will instead start using WGP (Work Group Processors) for RDNA3.

According to VideoCardz, the Navi 31 chip will be powering the next top-of-the-line card, while the Navi 33 is going to be in the upcoming mid-range offering. This information comes after a month that was apparently full of rumors about AMD's next-gen graphics card lineup.

It also came merely days after the official launch of the RX 6600 XT, which likely means AMD is finished with the current-gen and is now looking forward to the next-gen.

AMD RDNA3: What's The Expected Performance Uplift?

Rumored to release by late 2022, RDNA3 is proving that AMD wants to take their Radeon cards to a very different path this time around. And it starts with the graphics cards' new architecture.

The first part is trading CUs for WGPs. The next one is using Multi-Chip Modules (MCM), which will have two active graphics chipsets in them. It's this architecture that will allegedly be featured in Navi 31. Due to MCM, Navi 31 is expected to have a massive 15,360 FP32 cores, closely tied to its GDDR6 memory.

As for the lower-tiered Radeon Navi 33 will be built more traditionally: TSMC 6nm node, with 5120 SPs (stream processors.) The lack of MCM in this GPU should lower its cost quite a bit compared to the flagship.

Compared to the RDNA2-based RX 6000 series, RDNA3 will have a considerable improvement because of AMD's different approach. However, this could only be evident with the higher-end models and likely not with the Navi 33-based cards. It's all because of the MCM architecture, which Navi 33 seems not to have.

When Will It Be Officially Announced?

There is no word on the official announcement of RDNA3 from AMD yet. But with this leak, it's only a matter of time. But avid fans may just have to wait a little bit longer. The chaos that was caused by the GPU shortage still has both companies on the ropes in terms of keeping up with demand.
