The Decentralized Web: How You Can Invest in the Internet of the Future

The internet became widely available to everyone in the 1990s, but so much has changed in 30 years. More people than ever are using the internet and they are using it in far more ways than ever before.

From social media platforms and streaming websites to digital news outlets and online banking, there are many highly personal uses for the internet today. Many of the websites used for entertainment, communication or searches actively record, sell and use data collected from users. But the internet of the not-so-distant future could solve many of these issues.

With an increase in cybersecurity threats recently, keeping information safe has become more important than ever. Hackers seizing valuable information and holding it for ransom has become a regular occurrence. Existing, proven technology is the key to a secure presence online.

With the use of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, the internet of the future might look quite different. However, it is far more sustainable and safe for commercial use and consumers hoping to protect themselves.

Security issues with current internet

Currently, the internet presents many security risks. Hackers seek to break through passwords, viruses disable security settings and phishing which seeks to gain sensitive information are just a few of the many security threats of the modern internet. All of them seek to gain access to important personal information or data.

With that information, the attackers can hold files or information for ransom or steal an identity among other things. Some simply want more information on shopping habits, such as adware, to more aggressively market items people have browsed for. Regardless of the cybersecurity threat, using the internet can actually be safer.

Building a safe network

Internet safety issues are why you should invest in routers that use Wi-Fi 6 Mesh and Name Data Networking to provide users with more secure access to data. Wi-Fi 6 Mesh technology provides a streamlined high-speed broadband experience while Name Data Networking essentially applies blockchain technology to the content itself rather than the data's container. This allows only the intended user to receive, open and see their data.

This makes the internet safer because every user on the network would have a specific identity that could be traced back to them. Since no one could tamper with the data, only those with access could access the contents. This means people can keep companies from harvesting and selling their data. Over time, the technology could develop further to even allow social media users to simply have the platform provide a single-use password that couldn't be hacked. Having a totally safe password would certainly change the difficulty of keeping up with numerous passwords - especially after a data breach.

Decentralizing the internet

When building RevoFi, we wanted to focus on not only equipping users with safe internet, but also internet access they could share to further decentralize internet access and make the net more accessible for all. This is a model we hope other organizations choose to copy in the future to take the power back for ourselves instead of relying on large companies prone to disruption and hacks.

When the routers are running to create hotspots, Revos are minted which are the routers' proof of network tokens. These tokens are then burned to receive Revos Data Credits. The credits can then be put towards using the resources within the cloud services network. Revos can also be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies or people can simply buy Revos Data Credits to access the cloud services network.

Essentially, RevoFi provides internet access hotspots while allowing owners of the routers to mine cryptocurrency. Mining cryptocurrency creates the blockchain that creates a secure internet network. Users can invest by buying their own router which expands the network and opens up the secure use of the internet to others who buy credits. However, anyone who wishes to join can simply buy credits.

As the world works more remote than ever before, the internet - and how we use it - is going to change forever. Safe and equal internet access has never been more important, and through advanced safety measures and internet sharing, we can get there together.
