How to Print From an Android Device Using Chrome

Google actually has a simple step-by-step guide on how to print from an Android smartphone and even a tablet. Yes, it is actually possible. Whether you have one of the Samsung smartphones, one of the Google Pixel smartphones, or any other smartphone running on Android, you can print from your phone by following Google's really easy steps. 

There is one thing you are going to need to make this possible. You will need "a printer that can get data with Wi-Fi or a mobile network," according to Google. 

Once that is ready to go, the first thing you have to do is to open the Chrome app. After that, select the page, file, or even image that you want to print out. Once you have selected what needs to be printed, tap More followed by Share. 

Select the option to print and then select the printer. You can change printer settings by tapping the arrow down button. 

Once that is all set, just tap print and voila!

Android's Default Print Service

Some users may not know this, but Android actually has a default print service. According to an article by Digital Trends, this service will let you print from Google Photos and will likewise require a WiFi-enabled printer that is on the same local network as your Android device. 

How to print from an Android device using the default print service is straightforward as well. Once both the printer and Android device are on the same network, pull down the shade and tap the gear icon. 

Tap Connected Devices, followed by Connection Preferences, and then Printing. After that select, Default Printing Service and toggle the switch to make sure it is turned on. 

Close the settings screen and then open the file you want to print. Tap the three-dot Menu icon, followed by Print. Select the printer that is detected by the default printing service. Tap the blue printer icon to begin printing. 

How to Print From an Android Using Gmail

Many of the things that you probably want to print from your Android device are located in Gmail. According to Digital Trends, "While the steps may differ based on the platform that you do use, you should still be able to print a range of files using your email so long as the email address itself is valid and the printer can be found online." 

Files that you can print from Gmail include:

  • Word (doc, docx)

  •  Excel (xls, xlsx)

  •  PowerPoint (ppt, pptx)

  • PDF

  •  JPEG

  •  GIF

  •  BMP

  •  PNG

  •  TIFF

To print using Gmail, open the app and choose to compose a new email. Enter your printer's email address as the recipient of the email. Once you have done that, attach the file that you want to print to the email. Take note that adding text to the body will print said text as a separate document. 

Send your email to print your file.
