Disney+ to Debut IMAX Enhanced for 13 Marvel Movies

According to a press release brought by Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, the streaming service platform of Disney+ is getting an upgrade, and it is with more to see on the screen. The previous best quality that Disney+ has is the 4K video quality of the 2160p availability to its streaming services, available for select movies.

However, 4K video can get better with regards to the screen aspect ratio, pairing it with the display brought by IMAX known to be the massive video aspect ratio used by filmmakers. Disney+ calls this the "IMAX Enhanced" experience that would be automatically available in thirteen of the selected and compatible Marvel movies available on the platform.

These films were all captured using IMAX cameras, hence its availability to debut an "IMAX" format with the screen ratio of 1:90:1, said to bring as much as 26 percent more pictures into the screen.

Disney+ IMAX Enhanced Marvel Movies List

  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Black Panther
  • Black Widow
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Captain Marvel
  • Doctor Strange
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Iron Man
  • Thor: Ragnarok

Disney+'s IMAX Enhanced library is expansive but is not quite all the popular Marvel movies that consist of the more than 10 years of action and adventure it brought to the public. And while the list is shorter than expected, it still has classic titles like the 2008 "Iron Man" known to have started the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as led by Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau.

Disney+ Streaming Service

Disney+'s Streaming Service is a niche platform, as it focuses more on what the entertainment company has to offer, including that of Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and its classic Disney titles. However, despite being smaller compared to its competitors, the performance of the streaming company is massive, topping 116 million in Q3 to rival Netflix and the like.

The IMAX availability of these Marvel titles is a massive improvement to its streaming quality, with the capability of maximizing a said display in giving more pictures to the video. Instead of going with the traditional 16:9 or 1:77:1, significantly less than the capabilities of IMAX.

The cameras used on IMAX captures are expensive and its setup is known to be costly, hence the more expensive ticket prices it has. However, with the Disney+ service, there are no announced price increases to its monthly subscription.
