Clubhouse is now moving away from its audio-only rooms by adding text functions as well. With the new feature, users will now be able to chat with each other inside the Clubhouse voice rooms for added communication.

As popular social platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook are all adding Clubhouse-like features to their apps, it seems as if Clubhouse is now starting to like them in return.

Clubhouse Adds Text Chat Function

Per an announcement by Clubhouse, the popular social audio app is now adding a "text chat function" to its current voice rooms. The new feature will make Clubhouse voice rooms similar to what users of Zoom or Discord have, which means those who either cannot or do not want to speak or can't speak can opt to type what they have to say instead.

According to the story by Engadget, although the new feature seems quite "counterintuitive," especially since it is coming to an originally audio-only app, the new text feature is actually one that many users have been hoping to get. It is no surprise then that the arrival of the new feature is now being celebrated on Twitter.

New Feature Helps More Users Join Extra-Large Rooms

The feature is expected to work quite well especially when users are in extra-large rooms or "rooms dominated by a few celebrity speakers." The new in-chat function might be the only way that a number of people will be able to join the discourse.

The new chat function, however, can also become quite a "moderation nightmare" as certain individuals who have "spent a few minutes on Twitch can attest to," according to the report.

Creators Given More Options to Delete Messages or Kick Disruptive Users

In addition, Clubhouse has also rolled out a number of ways that creators will be able to keep their rooms "from flying off the handle."

Basically, creators will be able to appoint certain mods or even delete messages and will be given the option to kick out certain disruptive users from the Clubhouse room. Users will also be able to report certain messages that violate the user guidelines of Clubhouse.

The additional chat feature, however, is still optional for those individuals who prefer to keep the rooms strictly audio-only. In addition to that, creators are also given the choice to opt-out of "in-room chat" whenever they create their room.

Clubhouse Now Becoming Like Other Social Platforms

On top of the new feature, once users decide to record the room's audio, the chats will also be saved as well.

In the past, Clubhouse was initially only available as a mobile app but in January, the platform decided to roll out a new way for more people to listen to certain conversations through their desktop as well.

Users were also given a feature to allow them to send certain "direct messages" to one another with Clubhouse's Backchannel. According to Engadget, as live voice chat rooms start to lose their appeal, Clubhouse will have to try and get more creative in order so that the platform can continue to be on the same level as its competitors.
