On Mar. 3, Polestar unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the Polestar O2 convertible. The new vehicle is the company's new era for sports cars, according to Polestar's Head of Design, Maximilian Missoni.

Polestar stated in a statement that the new convertible will mix the joy of open top driving and the purity of electric mobility, as it unlocks a new mix of emotions.

Polestar O2 Convertible

The Polestar O2 electric vehicle will be built upon the same bonded aluminum unibody platform that the car company is using for the Polestar 5, and resemble the Precept concept design it is derived from which, according to the company, shows how Polestar's evolving design language can be adapted to several body styles with a strong resemblance.

The O2 convertible will have more compact and will have a 2+2 sportscar feel compared to the Polestar 5, according to TechCrunch.

The car company did not reveal detailed data on how a convertible electric vehicle would work. However, Polestar did assert that the vehicle will have a disguised design features like integrated ducts that improve laminar air flow over the wheels and body sides, and rear lights that function as air blades to reduce turbulence behind the vehicle.

With a shorter wheelbase and only an afterthought of rear seats, the car offers a sportier and more aggressive stance compared to the Polestar 2, according to The Verge.

The exterior of the convertible EV has sharp lines with a low-slung cabin seated between fender flares and an acutely angled glass-top roof that retracts into a broad trunk. The car's exterior looks like a combination of a Ford F40 and Porsche 718 Spyder with flattened curves.

According to TechCrunch's Andrew Tarantola, the interior of the Polestar OS convertible is supple, as it features a thermoplastic mono-material throughout for the hard bits, paired with recycled polyester as the main material used for all of the soft components.

Drivers will also be able to film their top-down adventures with O2's integrated cinematography drone. Developed together with Hoco Flow, the autonomous camera drone rides in an area of negative pressure generated from an airfoil deployed behind the rear seats.

The drone can follow along at speeds up to 56 MPH and the captured footage can be edited and shared from the central infotainment system once the car is parked, according to Wired.

Polestar 5 2024

Aside from the Polestar OS convertible, the car company also teased its new sedan concept, the Polestar Precept, also known as the Polestar 5. The vehicle will be produced in 2024.

The company first announced the Precept in concept form back in February, with a software system powered by Google's Android and an interior full of sustainable material. This week, Polestar posted a video that gave people a glimpse of what the new car will look like.

Polestar, which began as the sub-brand of Volvo, has emerged as one of the more interesting EV companies on the market. The company is now jointly owned by Volvo and Geely, and it recently announced its plans to go public by merging with SPAC.

Polestar has several projects lined up. Last year, Polestar announced that it is working on Polestar Project 0.

Also, Polestar is set to release Polestar 3 within this year.
