Nintendo Switch has another major milestone this year as its Lifetime unit sales are now leading, surpassing PlayStation 4.
Nintendo Switch Outsells PlayStation 4
The momentum of sales for the Nintendo Switch in the United States resulted in a massive push against the PlayStation 4. As seen on Twitter, The NPD Group reported that sales of the Nintendo Switch surpassed the PS4.

Sony's PS5 still lags compared to the Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch in unit sales for this year. According to the story by Venture Beat, Nintendo Switch's lifetime unit sales have made it the "4th highest unit-selling console in the US."
NPD Group Says Nintendo Switch Falls Behind Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and Wii
The Nintendo Switch has also been recognized as the overall 6th highest unit-selling video game hardware ever recorded. The new achievement is a huge milestone for the company since it puts the Switch behind only a few other consoles.
According to Mat Piscatella of The NPD Group, the total unit sales of the Nintendo Switch only fall behind that of the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 2, and the Wii. Although Nintendo's unit sales have shown a significant win for the company, PlayStation still won against its competitor in dollar sales.
PlayStation 5 Still Saw Higher Dollar Sales
According to Piscatella, in April, the PS5 took home the most dollar sales and was followed by both Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch. Year-to-date, however, the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch both fell behind the Xbox Series X/S when it came to hardware dollars.
Among the different consoles, the one with the highest average sales price is still the PlayStation 5. This is due to the console not having a more affordable alternative like the $300 Xbox Series X.

Video Game Hardware Dollar-Sales Saw 16% Increase
As per Venture Beat, the lack of a cheaper console allowed the PlayStation 5 to generate more revenue despite limited console supply. In April, the increased availability resulted in hardware seeing a significant surge in a year-over-year comparison.
The publication added that this could be just a fraction of what the supply could look like when the year ends. There are expectations for increased availability before the end of the year. Piscatella noted a 16% increase in video game hardware dollar sales compared to a year ago.
This resulted in a $343 million increase due to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles having better supply. Venture Beat notes that tech companies now have better supply, which hopefully can help them increase the volumes by the second half of the year.
