Logging into Quest still requires your Facebook account, but it seems like Meta is looking to change this. The company is reportedly "still working" on an option to allow users to use their Quest without needing their Facebook account to log in.

Meta's CEO Announced Quest Login Without Facebook Account

According to the story by UploadVR, Meta's CTO recently announced that they are still working on an option to allow people to log into their Quest devices without a Facebook account. Andrew Bosworth, the chief technology officer of Meta, gave the update in an Instagram Q&A session.

The publication noted that due to the number of Quest owners that were looking to them for updates, they asked Bosworth if there would be any changes regarding account policy. Bosworth announced that changes are still in the works.

Announcement of Quest Update Came with Facebook's Name Change to Meta

Bosworth provided a little insight into how they work with Meta and the importance of data privacy regulations, and how data is owned, moved, and managed. The announcement regarding the change of direction was also confirmed in October of 2021.

The confirmation came from Mark Zuckerberg himself, the CEO of Meta, during the time Facebook changed its name. The change is also a significant indicator of Zuckerberg's plans towards independence from other tech platform companies.

Facebook Bought Oculus VR Startup for $3 Billion

Facebook paid a whopping $3 billion to acquire the Oculus VR startup back in 2014. To add, in 2021, Meta decided to raise its investment to $10 billion towards VR and AR technology with plans of growth in the next years to come.

Facebook decided to require Oculus device users to use their social media accounts to log in back in October 2020. As per the company, they would stop support for Oculus accounts using Facebook in 2023.

Meta Announced the Project Cambria Headset in 2021

Although it is not yet 2023, Meta's initial timeline, the company decided to shift its course in order to put more focus on its "Meta" efforts. In 2021, the company announced its plans to release the Project Cambria headset.

The Project Cambria headset focuses on remote work and is expected to host the Connect developer conference feature. This feature will allow the headset to get some of the latest updates from Meta.

More About Meta's Project Cambria Headset

Cambria is Meta's codename for its high-end standalone headset and is expected to cost $800. An in-depth insight into Project Cambria can be seen in a video uploaded to YouTube by UploadVR.

The video shows a more AR-focused approach with animations popping up on top of the real-life feed. This is in light of the new sensors that were announced to come with the new Project Cambria, along with its depth sensor to better understand the distance of certain visuals.
