Telegram Founder vs. Apple

The Telegram CEO, Pavel Durov, took a swipe at the iPhone maker on his public channel in his messaging app.

It is not the first instance that the messaging app founder called out Apple for what Durov says is limiting developers.

A news story by 9to5Mac reports that the Telegram founder criticized Apple again. But the tech CEO now takes a swipe at the restrictions that web developers face on iOS.

Durov airs out his frustration with the iPhone maker as the limitations affect the web app version of Telegram on iOS.

While the messaging service has its own app on the Apple App Store, Telegram also has a web version of its app for smartphone users.

9to5Mac notes that the web app of Telegram comes as the messaging service previously had a bit of trouble with the policies of Apple regarding its public channels.

It is worth noting that public channels in Telegram do not have some sort of restrictions, which Apple finds troubling.

So, the privacy-focused platform decided to work on a full web app to somewhat bypass the restrictions that the App Store requires.

The web version is much like its mobile app, flaunting the same features. But due to some limitations on iOS, the Telegram web on iPhones is missing some facets that the official app has.

Durov boldly claims that "Apple limits web developers in terms of what they can do on iPhones and iPads."

On top of that, the CEO and founder of Telegram went on to suspect that the Cupertino tech giant is restricting web apps on iOS on purpose.

The tech exec said on his public channel that "Apple may be intentionally crippling its web apps to force its users to download more native apps where Apple is able to charge its 30% commission."

In the latest post of Durov, he also shared a previous article from the developers of Telegram Web, which lists their issues with the Safari browser of iOS.
