TikTok and Oracle promise the regions in the Western Hemisphere and the Oceania area that their user data are still exclusive to the country and is not available in China's leading company currently. However, doubts remain regarding the data access that the Chinese company, ByteDance, still has over the accounts and users; that should not be the case after its changes.

Last Friday, June 17, TikTok released an announcement claiming to keep the data secure and assuring the public that their information is for Oracle's access only, under the company's patronage. Its US governance on data is a massive case here, as it was previously permitted to operate in the country, given that Oracle will handle its operations in the said regions.

The regions include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States.

TikTok and Oracle assure the public that the data access to the region's data is exclusive to their operations and company. Data security is a sensitive issue in this case, especially with past events that claim otherwise.

Nevertheless, TikTok asserts that Oracle holds the data to the region, and its parent company and China no longer have access to it.

Doubts Remain on China's Data Access to ALL TikTok Users

However, there were reports in the past week that claimed that China still has access to this data, and it remains among the public, according to The Verge. Despite the doubts, TikTok claims that it is still aiming to bring trust among users regarding its data security to the Texas-based company alone, with Oracle to fulfill its role as its "trusted organization."

TikTok and Oracle's Merger for Data Privacy

TikTok and Oracle's merger was a way to keep data secure and private for regions focusing on the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand made by the previous administration under former President Trump. In 2020, TikTok was running out of time to close a deal with a company to continue its operations in the country, with Oracle to fulfill its functions here.

Since then, TikTok has been operating smoothly in the country, and American users still have access to the app via Oracle's patronage.

However, a recent report focused on the access that China still has over the US region, among the other countries under Oracle's data regulation and operations with TikTok. Initial reports claim that ByteDance, TikTok's original mother company from China, reportedly was able to get ahold of US data among the other regions available.

Now, the claims remain, and users are still doubtful regarding the TikTok app and its data access within the Chinese company, despite the claims that it is for Oracle only. The data access is a massive breach of the law if proven correct, and should evidence reflect that China still has stakes on US TikTok data, serious issues may arrive.
