Contracts are as crucial as any other resource you use for your work operations, whether you run a successful company or a startup. However, it is one of the most challenging and intimidating undertakings. A simple contract inquiry, for example, or the effort to obtain the most recent contract version might severely compromise a critical business transaction. Legislate offers a solution to counteract such a hurdle and increase workflow efficiency, as shared by CEO Charles Brecque.

What Is Legislate?

In an interview with Tech Times, CEO Charles Brecque explained Legislate's functionalities. According to him, "Legislate is an easy way for non-lawyers to create contracts, but more importantly, to track the data and the contracts post signature."

Unlike other contract management tools, Legislate is intended to be simple. Making contracts is achievable through a machine-readable format, which effectively allows technology to read the data and contracts without the need for lawyers. Therefore, there is no need to finance a legal team to draft a contract for you.

Key Features

We visited Legislate's website and found these key features:

  • You can select a lawyer-approved agreement from their template library. Then, you may customize the contract terms directly in Legislate. You can also collaborate on the agreement with your team and send an email to other parties by inviting them to Legislate. Thus, it is a contract management software that is simple to use, robust, transparent, and secure.
  • Access all the contract forms you need to run your company and properties, such as Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreements, Lodger License Agreements, Lettings Agent Terms of Business, Employment Agreements, etc.
  • Patented knowledge graph technology also produces compliant contracts and makes contracts hyper searchable.

There is a lot more to expect, of course. But above all, Legislate's contract templates have been evaluated by legal specialists to guarantee that they are fair and robust enough to protect both parties involved in the contract.

Everything is also written in plain English to make it easier for those who aren't lawyers to understand. Besides that, by answering simple questions, you may customize your contract form to your exact needs.

Future Updates for Legislate

However, laws in the United States differ significantly from those in the United Kingdom. Legislate is now focused on England but plans to expand to the United States shortly, adding another legal team to its roster.

Brecque also wants to do more than what Legislate can offer, especially in employment agreements. "[We want to] make contracts usable within workflows because when you hire an employee, it doesn't end."

There may be additional services associated with the first contract. But, for the time being, such manual processing must be done by a human in the loop. "So what we're planning to do, you know, as we've made contracts machine-readable is turn contracts into APIs so that we can start to integrate with all these services, start to offer these services so that, hiring and onboarding a new employee can be done directly from Legislate."

Legislate's Major Advantages

As previously discussed, what distinguishes Legislate is the ability to generate contracts right away utilizing up-to-date lawyer-approved agreements from its template collection. This drastically reduces your time.

They also make it simple to sign electronically within the bounds of Legislate's platform. So you don't have to download and email it to everyone involved. Everything takes place in one location. You will gain access to the contract on your dashboard after the other party has signed. And when you acquire contracts, you can ask questions, filter them, and so on.

For inexperienced users who want to develop contracts, they may do so through customization within Legislate. All they need to do is answer a few questions. "We've made simple little questions and answers, and behind the scenes, we're controlling the quality of the input so that users don't make mistakes and they don't end up with contracts, which are not enforceable. But once they've set those answers to the questions, we generate the actual contract," CEO Charles added.

The Inspiration Behind Legislate

Brecque recalls his days doing business development when he had to suffer long hours of waiting for contracts to be completed.

"...in my previous role, I was doing business development, and I found that half my time was spent processing contracts, whether it was generating contracts from a template or communicating. The sharing of templates with the clients and waiting for their feedback. And a lot of that time was wasted on waiting."

Besides that, you don't simply waste time; you also lose deals.  Brecque recalls that on some occasions, they lost agreements or opportunities because contracts were not executed quickly enough. Even if contracts were already being handled, company priorities would shift during that period.

To avoid his experiences from resurfacing again, Brecque created Legislate. "So I wanted to come up with a solution, which would allow me, the business user, to create and negotiate those contracts without getting the lawyers involved. Not that we don't want to get the lawyers involved, but using technology to delegate [contracts]."

The CEO also made it possible to start with Legislate immediately without going through complicated steps. You will only need your email to sign up, and you're good to go.

Additionally, Brecque stated that their target consumers for producing contracts are not lawyers because they are already used to drafting contracts. They streamlined the procedure for small company owners recruiting an employee for the first time since they will need contracts for that.

Is Legislate for Everyone?

Today, small enterprises in the employment sector are struggling to solve contract writing issues. It motivates them to invest more in the legal aspects of creating one, which might consume a significant amount of financial resources. It's not always worth the cost because it takes up a lot of time and may cause you to lose out on important transactions and other opportunities.

Charles Brecque reiterated that Legislate is not just a simplified process of creating contracts. It's also efficient way to track the data in your contracts━definitely a 'cost-effective solution' to consider.
