Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that the final Tesla Cybertruck design is finally here. After several revisions in the past year, the launch is now scheduled for mid-2023.

Tesla's Cybertruck Launch Finalized

The Cybertruck was first announced in 2019, and the automaker stated that the truck would be rolled out by the end of 2021. However, Tesla has faced several issues with the truck, forcing it to push the launch date to 2022.

Now, the automaker has delayed the start of production again it focuses on bringing the Model Y to production at the Gigafactory in Texas.

In March, Tesla confirmed that it would complete the development of Cybertruck in 2023. The delay is caused by the automaker updating the design of the truck several times.

During an interview with the Tesla Owners Club, Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck design is now finalized and ready for production.

According to Electrek, Musk revealed that Tesla added rear-wheel-steering to the truck, and the company had made some design changes.

But the CEO added that despite the design revisions, Tesla would not have been able to bring the truck to the expected volume production because of the current global chip shortage.

The Verge reported that other factors caused the delay. Musk revealed during the earnings call in January that pricing is another issue aside from the chip shortage and battery production.

The company wants to make the Cybertruck affordable. Originally, it had a starting price of $39,900 when it was announced back in 2019.

Musk was asked during the call if an electric car could cost $25,000, to which he said that the company was not working on it.

The Tesla CEO has promised an affordable electric vehicle for years. He said that the automaker would produce a low-cost Tesla vehicle at some point, but they have too much going on right now.

Signs that the Cybertruck would be delayed first emerged in August 2021, when the online reservation page was changed, and then it was later removed from the company's official website.

Musk is positive that the new timeline is the final one and that the company will bring back the reservation page before its launch.

Available for Viewing

According to Inside EVs, the Tesla Cybertruck was available for viewing from May 18 through May 21. This was Tesla's way of attracting engineers to join their workforce.

As Tesla prepares for the production of the truck, Tesla has updated its Instagram page and posted video clips featuring the updated look of the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi prototypes.

The automaker posted on its Instagram stories that 20 of the company's sponsored student EV teams had competed in the Formula SAE races on June 20.

The company provided the teams with discounts, mentorship, battery cells, and design reviews.

The short clips Tesla posted on their Instagram page showed that the Cybertruck no longer has the massive windshield wiper blade. It was a part of the vehicle that was still present when it was spotted in May.
