Nearly all of the capabilities from Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) package have been removed in order to reboot its Enhanced Autopilot option, according to Electrek's report.

NEW YORK, NY - JULY 05: Tesla vehicles sit parked outside of a new Tesla showroom and service center in Red Hook, Brooklyn on July 5, 2016 in New York City. The electric car company and its CEO and founder Elon Musk have come under increasing scrutiny following a crash of one of its electric cars while using the controversial autopilot service. Joshua Brown crashed and died in Florida on May 7 in a Tesla car that was operating on autopilot, which means that Brown's hands were not on the steering wheel.

Electrek noted that It has been challenging to keep up with Tesla's numerous price and option changes for Autopilot over the years.

Tesla eventually decided to make the Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control aspects of the Autopilot standard on its vehicles and combine the rest of the features into its FSD, which has since increased in price to $8,000 from its initial $6,000 pricing.

Previously, Tesla offered "Enhanced Autopilot," which incorporated most of the functions present in the FSD package except the future ability to unlock a full self-driving system via software updates.

Tesla eventually integrated some of the Enhanced Autopilot functions into the FSD package and discontinued Enhanced Autopilot instead of reinserting it a couple of times as an optional software upgrade because the company kept missing deadlines to accomplish that.

However, on Friday, Tesla undid the change by reintroducing Enhanced Autopilot in its entirety as a $6,000 add-on for future purchases.

Full Self-Driving Capability Package

Electrek also noted that the Autopilot took out every key component from the Full Self-Driving Capability package. Here are the following features:

  • Smart Summon
  • Summon
  • Autopark
  • Navigate on Autopilot
  • Auto Lane Change

All Basic Autopilot's and Enhanced Autopilot's features, as well as Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, are still included in the Full Self-Driving Capability package.

The actual value will, of course, come from eventually developing a fully autonomous driving system that does not necessitate constant driver attention or place the burden of care on the driver, as is the case with all the other features that are currently available.

Electrek stated that the $6,000 Enhanced Autopilot option will probably be more popular, and Tesla doesn't have to pay anything to turn those capabilities on because all the necessary gear is present in every vehicle it makes this decision is intended to increase its profit margins.

Additionally, the FSD package is now a $6,000 add-on to Enhanced Autopilot and adds nothing more than "Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control," which is in beta.
