The new MacBook Pro, which sports that next-generation Apple M2 chip, appears to have a slower SSD performance, which fails to outperform its older brethren, which feature the M1.

New M2 MacBook Pro

Apple unveiled its newest MacBook offerings, including the all-new MacBook Pro and the refreshed MacBook Air, which kick off the debut of the M2 chipset.

The Cupertino-based tech giant touted that the M2 chip boasts upgrades in terms of its overall performance.

A news story by The Verge reports the new MacBook Pro features the same design that the Apple computer had since way back in 2016.

It still has the Touch Bar and lacks handy ports like HDMI and SD card slots. The "all-new" MacBook Pro still offers the exact same chassis that Apple offered last 2020.

It is worth noting that Apple recently refreshed its MacBook Pro offerings last year or in 2021. Its 14-inch and 16-inch siblings have brought back MagSafe and the necessary ports while rightfully ditching the Touch Bar.

So essentially, the new MacBook Pro flaunts a new M2 chip, but the rest are the old offerings.

MacBook Pro M2 SSD Performance

While the M1 is relatively powerful for most users, the M2 chip steps up the game in most aspects.

But recent tests of the all-new MacBook Pro show that M2 is lagging in terms of its storage speeds versus the older M1 chip.

Now that the M2 MacBook Pro has started shipping to its first customers, early tests of its performance have sprouted like mushrooms online.

According to a recent report by Mac Rumors, popular YouTubers like Created Tech and Max Tech have already shared the results of these early M2 MacBook Pro tests.

But it turns out that while the M2 offers an overall speedier performance, its SSD write and write speeds were oddly left behind.

The test shows that the base model of the new M2 MacBook Pro has significantly slower SSD performance.

MacBook Pro M2 vs. MacBook Pro M1 SSD Speed

To put it in context, here's the comparison between the SSD speed of the all-new M2 MacBook Pro and the older MacBook Pro M1.

9to5 Mac reports that the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test showcased a surprising test result.

The benchmark test, as seen on the YouTube video of Max Tech, showed that the new MacBook Pro has a read speed of 1446 MB per second and a write speed of 1463 per second.

On the other hand, the M1 MacBook Pro flaunts a read speed of 2900 MB/s and a write speed of 2215 MB/s.
