Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who are waiting for the update to Android Lollipop 5.0 may not have to wait much longer. The software update was rolled out to the UK last week and is expected to hit the US in the near future.

The recent rollout of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the UK points to a possible US release shortly. On Tuesday, Jan.13, UK owners of the Galaxy S5 were treated to an update of their devices to Android's new operating system. Prior to that, other European markets such as Poland, Russia Malaysia and Spain also saw Android 5.0 updates for Galaxy S5 owners.

Less than two weeks prior to the UK release, on Dec.31, an anonymous US Samsung employee leaked an internal email confirming that Samsung devices will begin receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update beginning in January. The employee posted the information and a link to the internal email on a Reddit forum, and then briefly fielded questions from other Reddit users before deleting his profile.

Reddit moderators, however, confirmed the poster was indeed a Samsung employee prior to the deletion, posting that "FYI: He sent us a picture showing that he does indeed work with Samsung, so that's where the "verified" tag comes from." Exactly in what capacity the poster worked for Samsung was not revealed however, with some skeptical responses questioning the poster's level of employment, and the veracity of his claims.

The poster claimed that the Galaxy S5 was being given top priority by Samsung and would be the first to receive the Lollipop update, with the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge supposedly given next priority for the update, then the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, and finally Samsung's lineup of tablets. Now that the Galaxy S5 has indeed been the first Samsung device to receive the update in Europe, it adds credibility to the poster's claims that the Galaxy S5 will be updated before Samsung's other devices, possibly before January is over.
