Sony partners with Backbone to bring Backbone One, a special iPhone controller with a touch of PlayStation buttons.

According to 9to5Mac, the Backbone One controller PlayStation Edition can allow gamers to access several PlayStation titles from PS4 and PS5 platforms.

With just a single click from your iPhone, you can easily access a special mobile app dubbed "Remote Play." This particular app from Sony will tour you to several titles that you can stream on your smartphone.

If you're wondering how much this controller costs, it will cost you just $99.99. Although it's quite expensive for a mobile gaming controller, it's a great substitute if you don't want to utilize your DualSense controller.

Speaking of this PlayStation-exclusive controller, DualSense is rechargeable, whereas the BackBone One relies on the power of the iPhone.

Why is the Backbone One Controller Worth it?

When you compare the 2020 BackBone One to the current PlayStation edition controller, there's only a minimal change that you will notice. According to The Verge, you can immediately spot that the latter has shape buttons instead of letter buttons. This interface suits well for mobile gaming.

Using the controller, you can access Stadia, Apple Arcade, and Xbox Game Pass. However, you will see that the button prompts don't match the display because these are programmed to have PS-based buttons.

This mobile gaming controller features a good trigger response, nice grips, and even a good button arrangement. It has an audio port and a Lightning charging capability.

Remote Play is best used if you have high-end Wi-Fi hardware. If your internet connection is decent, you can fully take advantage of it when playing video games.

The Downside of Backbone Controller

Having a good mobile gaming controller is a personal choice you need to make. It's not mandatory to grab this one, but it feels good to know that it elevates your gaming experience.

Once you get the "feels" of pressing Backbone's button, you will notice how it feels to return to the PS5 home screen once again. This is quite great, yet it bypasses the toolbar that instantly places the device in rest mode.

As a result, you still need to wake up the touchscreen capability of your iPhone to navigate this. It's quite a hassle because you need to reconnect the Remote Play app to your console for another time.

Regardless of its downside, it's clear that Sony is slowly approaching some solutions to enter the mobile gaming market.
