The global COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting many countries across the globe. While new variants are being discovered, government officials are also trying to prevent the monkeypox disease.
Now, another health threat has been detected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday, July 27. How serious are these new bacteria? Here are the major details.
CDC Confirms Life-Threatening Bacteria in US!
According to CDC's official report, it is the first time that the bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei (B. pseudomallei) has appeared in the United States environment.

The health department said that the bacteria was identified after they sampled the soil and water in the Gulf Coast region of southern Mississippi.
They conducted this research while investigating two cases. Gizmodo reported that the first infection was recorded back in July 2020.
On the other hand, the second case was documented in May. CDC said that both patients had no recent travel history to endemic areas.
But, they live close to close to one another in the Mississippi Gulf Coast region. After further investigation, the infected individuals were hospitalized.
Luckily, they were able to recover from the sepsis caused by the B. pseudomallei.
- Pseudomallei's Severity
Health officials explained that bacteria don't always make people sick. But, it will be hard to detect, even if you are already developing its symptoms.
CDC explained that the B. pseudomallei's signs are commonly random. This alarming is that it can remain inactive for many years and will likely become active after the infected individual's health declines.
Authorities added that immediate care would most likely be delayed since diagnostic tests can mistake the bacteria for other infections.
When it comes to fatality, the bacteria can range from 10% to 50%, putting people with underlying medical conditions in danger.
On the other hand, new poliovirus cases were recorded in South Africa.
Meanwhile, CEPI shared one major difference between monkeypox and COVID-19.
