We all have plans. It's human nature to want everything to go according to plan, but life has a way of throwing us unexpected curveballs and derailing our goals. That's what happened to Willis Hicks. In his late 20s, he found himself thrust into a family crisis when cancer struck, leaving him alone to care for his young family while they mourned their mother's death. Without insurance coverage and the cost of caregiving assistance, the illness took everything, including Hicks' house, because he couldn't afford it. The emotional and financial burden took a toll on him, and he had to work all hours of the day just to provide for his two young children, aged 2 years and 4 months.  Hicks worked a job for UPS, he gave his all and worked there for 28 years of his life until he retired.

Retirement forced Hicks to reconsider his financial options. Though he managed to make the best out of his horrible situation and cater to his family's needs, life was changing rapidly, and he knew he needed an extra source of income. He ventured into the fitness space and started a new career as a fitness and nutrition coach. The business was still in its infancy when COVID hit and closed everything down. Hicks found himself stranded once again and in urgent need of a new source of income to help him pay his mounting bills. Hicks found a zip recruiter ad for insurance by chance and became interested. During further research, he stumbled on the Family First Life model and plugged in. Hicks knew he found something he could see himself doing for many years because he liked helping people, and he knew they needed insurance products.

Grateful for the second chance to do meaningful and impactful work, Hicks immediately started his full-time career in insurance. However, the results were not instant because of the learning curve. Luckily, the Family First Life model ensured he had mentors to guide him. Hicks dove into the training and worked hard until everything fell into place. After several weeks of trial and error, he figured out what works and what doesn't, and started enjoying his work. Within his first year, he helped over 500 families and became a Hall of Fame producer. The following year, he started his agency, Hicks Insurance, and helped create an additional income stream for other insurance agents.

Hicks Insurance has a team of 15 full-time agents and is still growing. Hicks predicts that eight agents will help thousands of families this year individually, and those new to the program will still make significant strides in their careers. While appreciating the monetary achievements, Hicks is also proud of the work he does with his team in providing financial security and peace for the families they work with. He knows firsthand how challenging it can be to bounce back from the death of a loved one and how stressful life can be for those without insurance coverage. His goal is to train and coach as many agents as possible and use them to increase his impact. Hicks hopes to find 1,000 coachable and passionate agents to join his team and work with them to help families find some peace during the most challenging time of their lives.
