If you were a betting man, which would you bet on to win during a car race? The electric luxury car or a gasoline muscled car? For someone who doesn't know much about cars, I would probably bet on the muscled car. But then again, what do I know?

Most people who watched the duel between the Tesla Model S P85D and the 2015 Dodge 6.2 liter 707 horsepower Hemi V8 Challenger Hellcat at the Palm Beach International Raceway were surprised at the outcome of the quarter-mile drag race. Here's a hint: the muscled car didn't go as fast as expected.

To understand better what all the fuss was about with the Tesla P85D we need to break down the differences between the two cars. The Tesla is an electrically powered five-seat luxury sedan while the Hellcat is more the traditional gasoline-pumped two doors muscle car, which in car speak, is two hemispheres apart from each other. And that's what makes this duel interesting.

To put it bluntly, the Tesla is no glorified electric golf car. With a combined output of 691 HP from its front and rear electric motors, add to that their drive-control software adjusting the power needed by each wheel that ensures the front and rear have equal traction. This car is most definitely, always ready to go.

The results don't lie, StreetCarDrags says, "During the run the Tesla Model S P85D set a new world record (verified by NEDRA) for being the quickest and fastest production electric car in the world running 11.6 @ 114.6 MPH down the 1/4 mile with a very impressive 1.65 60′ time. 0-60 MPH came in last just 3.1 seconds during the run as per the VBOX."

Though the two cars aren't exactly comparable, it is interesting how the owners of these two different models decided to showcase their conviction as being the fastest and baddest machines on the road. And what better way to settle the issue than by having a face off on the drag strip?
