Animated versions of the X-Men have made their way to television before. But with the success of other super hero-related TV series, Fox has announced that it is currently developing the first ever live action X-Men series for the small screen.
The X-Men franchise has already proven to be hugely successful in the box office. This will be the first time the Marvel mutants will be featured in a live action TV series. A step which has long been coming, according to many fans and people connected to various incarnations of the franchise.
The show is still in its very early stages of development and it remains to be seen if it will follow the trend of other Marvel shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which ties-in to the movies in the same universe and continuity, or if it will be a stand-alone series apart from the events on the silver screen.
It is yet undecided if the show will feature the most popular X-Men from the movies like Wolverine and Professor X, or if it will focus on some of the comic's many lesser known but equally interesting and exciting mutants who have not yet had a chance to shine in the films.
Also, the head honchos over at Marvel have yet to give Fox the final green light to fully develop the TV series. Currently, the rights to the X-Men is already held by 20th Century Fox for film and many big names in writing and production who were involved with the movies are already also beginning to attach themselves to the developing show.
"It makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there's just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV," said Simon Kinber who penned X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The new X-Men TV series may still have many details yet to materialize, but mutant fans can still look forward to X-Men: Apocalypse coming to theaters in summer next year.
Other exciting Marvel Universe characters who will soon be featured on the small screen are Iron Fist and Luke Cage, both on Netflix; and Agent Carter on ABC.
