Mortal Kombat as a franchise is no stranger to demons, monsters and all manner of disfigured characters, all hell-bent on dismembering each other in the most gruesome ways possible. Heck, even Freddy Kruger made an appearance in the game's last entry.

It doesn't sound too out of the question then for one late member of the heavy metal band GWAR, famous for their over-the-top, grotesque costumes, to be immortalized in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X. While it's not official, fans have petitioned Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios to include the likeness of band frontman Dave Brokie's character Oderus Urungus in the game.

He definitely would fit right in. The petition, started by Boston Brand, currently boasts more than 25,000 signatures. Here's what it says:

"People who are familiar with GWAR know Oderus Urungus, (played by Dave Brockie) the former singer of the band, unfortunately passed away last March," the petition reads. "Oderus was as hilarious as he was viscous, and also one of the most colorful and creative characters not only in rock history, but also history in general. Though his music will live on, what better way would there be to further immortalize (toasty) Oderus Urungus then to have him be a playable character on Mortal Kombat X."

Brockie tragically passed away last March at the age of 50. GWAR continues on without him to this day, and even played at his funeral during their annual GWAR-B-Q concert, where the band held a viking funeral for Brockie.

NetherRealm has yet to comment on the petition, but that doesn't mean Oderus Urungus won't be coming to the game. Mortal Kombat X releases April 14, meaning much of the game's content is already set in stone. NetherRealm doesn't have the time to create a brand new character before the launch.

While it may be out of the question for Oderus Urungus to ship with the game, it is very possible he could be included as a downloadable character that will become available after the game's release. NetherRealm's 2009 Mortal Kombat saw multiple DLC characters join the roster in the months after the game's launch, including Freddy. Each were later bundled in a Complete Edition of Mortal Kombat that included all the game's DLC on one disc.

If Oderus Urungus is to make his way into the world of Mortal Kombat X, expect official word from NetherRealm closer to the game's April release date. With nearly 26,000 fans pledging their support behind the idea and willing to fork over cash to see the character brought to life in-game, it could definitely work out in NetherRealm's favor if they did decide to listen. In the meantime, here is everything we currently know about the Mortal Kombat X roster.
