Sony is expected to launch its new Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone at MWC 2014. Recently, leaked screenshots of the Xperia Z2's camera app show that the superphone is capable of shooting 4K video at 60 fps and 15.5-megapixel stills.

Even though the Xperia Z2's back camera is still expected to feature a 20.7-megapixel sensor just like its predecessor, the Xperia Z1, it seems that Sony has decided to vastly improve the camera's capabilities. Many users thought that although the Z1 has a camera with a lot of megapixels, it didn't take good enough video or still shots. Sony clearly realized that it had to do better to impress true camera buffs.

Hence the Z2's spectacular capabilities. While the Xperia Z1 could only shoot 1080p videos at 30 fps, the Xperia Z2 can shoot 1080p videos at 60 fps. As if doubling the number of frames per second that the smartphone's camera can shoot wasn't enough, Sony also bestowed 4K video recording capabilities upon the Xperia Z2.

Although the 4K video recording option wasn't listed in the screenshots, many believe that Sony has dedicated a separate app to that feature. Other camera apps for Timeshift video, special effects and more unique programs are expected to appear in separate apps, too.

One thing the screenshots clearly show is a new option for taking 15.5-megapixel still shots. This new option is sure to satisfy many users who were fed up with the limitations of the 20.7-megapixel sensor camea, which could only take stills with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The 15.5-megapixel still shot option will allow users to use the sharp back camera to take 16:9 aspect ratio stills. Previously, if users wanted to get a 16:9 aspect ratio shot, they had to use the less-powerful 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

In addition to the fantastic new camera capabilities, the Sony Xperia Z2 will also feature very high-end specifications. The Z2 will have  a 5.25-inch 2K display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The new flagship will reportedly be powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and come with 3 GB of RAM. The operating system is expected to be Android 4.4 KitKat.

In terms of design, the Z2 looks pretty much the same as the Z1 in leaked photos of the device. The Xperia Z2 will most likely be dust and water resistant like its predecessor.
