Samsung's next-generation flagship tablet has made an appearance on a benchmarking site. The Galaxy Tab S2 will be thinner than the iPad Air 2, powered by an octa-core processor, and more.

On March 1, Samsung will issue its response to Apple's wildly successful iPhone 6 in the form of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The two-pronged approach is a similar move the company used in September 2014, when it unveiled the Galaxy Note 4 and curved-display Galaxy Note Edge.

While Samsung's focus appears transfixed on smartphones currently, the company hasn't forgotten about its tablet ambitions and is preparing to release follow-ups to last year's high-end and flagship Galaxy Tab S series.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has just made an appearance on a popular benchmarking site, revealing its specs in the process. Its reported specs are impressive and its rumored premium metal design could make it a worthy competitor to Apple's iPad Air 2.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has shown up on GFXBench and is listed by its model number of Samsung SM-T815. The tablet is running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and features a 9.7-inch (9.6-inch listed is believed to be an error) 2048 x 1536 Super AMOLED display, while its size and resolution match the iPad Air 2, Samsung's Super AMOLED display is superior to Apple's. It's powered by a 1.9 GHz Samsung Exynos 5 octa-core processor, Arm Mali-T760 MP6 GPU (graphics processing unit), and 3 GB of RAM. The Tab S2 tested is a 32 GB variant and has 25 GB of internal space available to the user. It will have an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video chat.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is expected to feature a metal frame, weigh 407g, and its dimensions come in at 237.1 x 168.8 x 5.4 mm, making it smaller and lighter than Apple's iPad Air 2.
