Karma can sometimes be immediate and the payback it brings is oh so sweet.

A would-be thief in Ireland got his reward when he tried to smash a brick into the window of a car in his attempt to rob it. But wouldn't you know it, the car and brick conspired against him and it immediately bounced back and hit the thief squarely in the face.

According to reports, the car's owner is owner of the Pheasant pub in Drogheda, Gerry Brady. It was he who discovered the thief lying in a pool of his own blood by his parked vehicle. At first, he said, he thought the poor man was a victim of a beating. His girlfriend even thought he might have been the victim of a hit and run accident.

"When I saw him, he was lying there stone cold on the ground and his face was in ribbons," Brady said.

Apparently not having learned his lesson from getting bested by a brick, the thief even attempted to extort Brady, after the latter tried to help him.

He demanded €50 to get himself a taxi, which Brady refused, telling him he needs to get his car window fixed. The thief, not satisfied, then threatened to burn down Brady's pub if he didn't give him what he wanted. He also threatened that he would tell authorities that it was Brady who beat him to a pulp and he would bring up the matter with his solicitor.

Brady and his girlfriend then decided to put some safety distance between them and the thief by going to a nearby gas station where they called the police.

The Gardaí arrived right away to pick up the thief who was still claiming that Brady had attacked him.

The hilarious truth eventually came out when the Gardai watched the CCTV footage of what happened.

"You should have heard the garda laughing when they saw the video. They were in stitches," Brady said.

The humiliated thief was taken into custody and the incident remains under investigation.
