Good news for owners of the PlayStation 2 console, which has probably been gathering dust in the basement. For the first time in two years, Gamestop has announced that they will finally begin accepting trade-ins again for the old console.

Although the PS2 was the king of the market for 13 years, the arrival of the PlayStation 4 back in 2013 marked the end of an era for the best-selling console, which sold over 15 million units all over the globe.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment, the PS4 has quickly surpassed its predecessor and has already sold over 18.5 million units around the world.

Six months after Sony stopped producing the PS2, Gamestop also announced that they would no longer accept trade-ins for the unit. Even though production on the console ceased, hundreds of titles still available for the PS2 make it a hugely popular gaming console.

Therefore, starting Mar. 1, you can once again offer Gamestop to buy back your unit of the world's most popular console for store credit.

"The Sony PlayStation 2 is known for its vast library of games and being the top-selling video game console of all time. Gamestop knows that a demand for this iconic piece of video game history is still high and will once again buy back PS2 consoles," Gamestop said.

A PS2 that still has its AV/cable, power cable, and one controller will get you $25. If you happened to lose those accessories, don't fret! You can still get up to $20 for just the console itself.

ProTip: Trade in your console at Gamestop and sell your accessories on eBay. It's the better deal, says IGN since "DualShock 2 controllers are selling on eBay at anywhere from $5 to $20 USD."

So dust off those old PS2 consoles from your basement storage and let Gamestop breathe new life into them -- and enjoy your $20 to $25 store credit for something you no longer use.
