Samsung has announced its new curved dual-edged display Galaxy S6 Edge that it unveiled at Mobile World Congress was awarded "Best New Handset, Tablet or Device" of the show by the GSMA.

Back in December we reported that Samsung was going back to the drawing board in terms of design and features with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The company internally code-named the strategy as "Project Zero" and its purpose was to produce two flagship smartphones that would highlight Samsung's innovative expertise in the smartphone arena.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has overshadowed its Galaxy S6 sibling, thanks to its unique curved dual-edge display and alert feature called Edge Lighting, which allows users to be alerted to notifications even if the smartphone is face down. Users can assign colors to their favorite contacts through another new feature called People Edge and the S6 Edge will glow that corresponding color.

The Galaxy S6 Edge was awarded "Best New Handset, Tablet or Device" for a device launched during the show from the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association, or GSMA, an association of mobile operators and companies that promote the GSM mobile telephone system. In addition, the company's mobile security platform Knox also received the nod for "Best Security/Anti-Fraud Product or Solution" from the GSMA.

"With the Galaxy S6 edge, we sought to blend technology and design in a way the world has never seen before," said JK Shin, president and head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "We are honored that the GSMA agree that these are our most elegant and powerful devices so far."

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 are expected to be released by all major U.S. carriers in early April. Amazon is currently offering a 10 percent discount on Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge accessories for anyone who signs up for email updates before March 31.

Samsung and carriers have not revealed pricing information for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge but once they do, you can rest assured that we'll report right back to you. Are you planning on purchasing the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge?
