Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be released on April 10. And Verizon has become the first U.S. carrier to announce when its customers can preorder the new flagship smartphones.

The star of this year's Mobile World Congress was Samsung's new dual-edge display Galaxy S6 Edge.

The smartphone received tons of praise from tech critics and the GSMA gave it top honors and awarded it "Best New Handset." The S6 Edge is only one half of Samsung's strategy of reclaiming its title as smartphone king now that sales of Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have propelled the company into taking the title from Samsung in the fourth quarter of 2014.

While the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been garnering most of the attention, the more standard Galaxy S6 is certainly no slouch. The company wisely chose to use the same premium metal and glass design in the S6, as well as the same top of the line specs found in the S6 Edge, minus the dual-edge display. Both smartphones feature 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD Super AMOLED displays with extremely high pixel densities of 577 pixels per inch (ppi). In comparison, Apple's iPhone 6 boasts a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 Retina Display with a much lower pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi).

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge would be released globally on April 10 and revealed U.S. carrier availability. Both smartphones will be making their way to all major U.S. carriers.

Verizon Wireless just announced on its Twitter page that it would open preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge beginning on April 1. The carrier hasn't provided any pricing information or whether it plans to release the smartphones on April 10.

It's safe to assume that AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will soon follow Verizon with their own launch plans. Once we hear any new information in regards to the U.S. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge launch, we'll report right back to you.
