Whether or not you're a boxing fan, there is a once in a lifetime match that even you can't help but follow and hold your breath in anticipation simply because you know in your gut that it's the fight of the decade.

On May 2, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, two of the world's biggest boxing champs, will be facing off in the ring to show off their skills and once and for all prove who the ultimate champion is. But as a warm-up, both athletes have taken to social media to start off a slugfest fit for expert jabbers.

Wednesday, at an L.A. press conference, many were quite surprised with the unusual silence of Mayweather. A departure from his usual verbal fight mode against his opponents. On the other hand, seemingly out of character for the normally reserved Filipino boxer, Pacquiao was the first to throw in verbal jabs - or maybe they're really just statements of his confidence that he was making in regards to the upcoming fight.

The aim of the press con was to build up the event that will be held in Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tickets will range from $1,500 to $7,500. But even without the face to face meeting before reporters, both the 38-year old, 47-0, 26 knockouts Mayweather and the 36-year old 57-5-2, 38 knockouts Pacquiao seemed to already been doing a good job of promoting themselves and their fight via their social media pages.

"Every fighter nowadays should be on social media, and if they're not, then they're not doing a good enough job at promoting themselves," says Nisse Sauerland, boxing promoter and CEO of Team Sauerland. "It doesn't matter who you are, whether you're a club fighter or a superstar."

Twitter, Instagram and Facebook followers of both boxers can easily see the difference in the way these two titleholders promote their lives. One is very flashy with his posts while the other is all about family and his faith in God. Both upload training pictures and videos.

Sauerland's outtake on the polarity of the two fighters' posts explains it best.

"I think they're both playing their roles. You've got the bad guy and the good guy, really. You've got the guy who throws the money around (Mayweather), that's his image, and Pacquiao, he's the hope of a nation," he said.

Here are a few posts from both fighters and see for yourself just how opposite and similar they can be.

On Pacquiao's strong left hook comments

Mayweather's comeback

"I can remember when I was young and always thought when Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard fought in the Superfight, I never thought there would be a fight that was bigger than that. And here we are," Mayweather said

There is still more than a month until the much-awaited match and both fighters will surely see a surge of followers in their respective social media accounts. As much as people can't wait for the actual faceoff, they also want to follow the subtle online slugfest between these champion contenders.

Sports media consultant and Cast Digital chief executive officer, Daniel Mclaren's prediction sums it all up in one line, "It'll be an interesting fight, just because they are so different."
