Oh, Marvel, you certainly know how to tease. With just a few more weeks left until the big summer blockbuster hits theatres, Marvel Studios entices us yet again with more promotional photos of the new characters who will make their big screen debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Scarlet Witch and her twin brother Quicksilver burn up the screen in the two never-before-seen photos. The duo will be played by Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Although they were already featured in a poster with the entire Avengers team assembled to do battle against Ultron and his army, the new posters put them front and center.

As many Marvel fans will gladly tell you, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are sister and brother Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Although they are twins, the two have very different powers.

Scarlet Witch has the ability to affect probability fields with her "hex bolts." This enables her to cause unlikely events to happen such as objects spontaneously bursting into flames, decaying, or rusting.

Quicksilver, on the other hand, has superhuman speed, which in the comic book universe gave him an advantage when competing in track and field.

The introduction of the two characters into the Avengers franchise is momentous for the Marvel Universe in general. Unlike the other superheroes, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver get their powers from their genetic mutations - they're mutants! - which will obviously pave the way for them to crossover easily into the X-men.

In fact, Quicksilver already appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past as a teenager who helps Wolverine and a young Professor X infiltrate the Pentagon.

As previously hinted at in the teaser trailers for Age of Ultron, The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver may get off on the wrong foot with the Avengers with the duo's initial team-up with ultimate baddie Ultron. Perhaps they will play the game by switching it up to both good and evil sides in the movies, as they often did in the comic books.

The promo photos of the siblings seem to play up on this as well. Scarlet Witch is decked out in gothic attire with her hex bolts casting magical red energy between her hands while Ultron's henchmen appear to be waiting on the buildings behind her. Her face is calm, as if building up the momentum for something big to happen.

By contrast, Quicksilver is already in the middle of the action. Dashing through a destroyed city behind him with Ultron's henchmen chasing him (or perhaps following him as he leads the fray?). His superhuman speed leaves blue streaks behind him.

We will have to wait until May 1 to see exactly whose side the mutant twins will be fighting for when Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in cinemas.
