Emerging from the unsettled waters of Crystal Lake, Jason Voorhees is returning, again, and is set to appear as a playable character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X.

NetherRealm Studio's Mortal Kombat X will introduce Jason in the game's $30 season pass, known as the Kombat Pack. For those not sure if they want the season pass, Europe's Premium edition and four of the U.S.' special editions of the game will also include the serial killer.

Warner Bros., Mortal Kombat X's publisher, indicated Jason will be joined by other guest combatants.

The Crystal Lake Killer

"Chhh, chhh, chhh... ha, ha ha..."
Those unfamiliar with that "dialog" may be among those who didn't get the chills. Jason is the iconic serial killer from the Friday the 13th films, though he started out as a victim.

Jason's drowning at Camp Crystal Lake fueled his mother's rage, but he later blossomed into a brutal antagonist in his own right. In Mortal Kombat X, Jason will don his iconic hockey mask and carry around his menacing machete.

Other Playable Characters

Mortal Kombat X has been slowly revealing characters as the game nears its release.

The game has already revealed a hefty roster of mainstay characters that includes Johnny Cage, Kano, Kitana, Raiden, Mileena, Reptile, Scorpion, Goro, Jackson Briggs, Sonya Blade, Kung Lao and Sub Zero.

The list of rumored characters includes Stryker, Nightwolf, Cyrax, Smoke, Erron Black, Sindel, Kabal, Rain and Fujin.

Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X, the tenth entry in the hyper-violent fighting series, is slated for an April 14release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Mobile games, for iOS and Android, have been slated to launch along side the main game. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are scheduled for the summer of 2015.

Rivaled only by the Grand Theft Auto Series, the Mortal Kombat franchise routinely draws controversy. Back in the 1990s, and before it dipped out of the mainstream, the Mortal Kombat games were derailed for their over-the-top protrayal of blood and gore. They've been banned in several countries and that trend doesn't appear to be changing with the upcoming 1080p blood-n-guts version of the game that's nearing launch.
