The genre of horror movies and the concept of possession have always fascinated many, and while they may give us the goosebumps, we just can't seem to get enough of them.

Creepy-looking dolls can scare the living daylights out of those who are unfortunate enough to cross their path. We take a look at 10 of the scariest dolls in horror films. We bet you'll never look at dolls the same way after watching these!

The Conjuring

With red ribbons adorning her two plaits, Annabelle from The Conjuring tops the list. Why? Simply because she is terrifying and is based on a real possessed doll. Such was Annabelle's impact that she stays on your mind long after the movie has ended.

Dead Silence

Another one based around a scary-looking ventriloquist doll, Dead Silence's Billy with its listless eyes and smirking face will creep you out in no time. Billy could devour you with his eyes alone.

"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. And if you see her, do not scream, or she'll rip your tongue out at the seam," so goes the "Mary Shaw" poem.

This one is from The Conjuring's director James Wan. Enough said.

Child's Play

How can we talk about haunted dolls and not mention Child's Play, which is synonymous with possession?

This supernatural thriller revolves around the soul of a serial killer - Chucky or the Lakeshore Strangler - possessing a Good Guy doll, which has been gifted by a mother to her son on his birthday.

Saw

This white-as-a-ghost tricycle-riding doll with its bulbous red eyes from Saw will have you heading for the covers. If you stopped looking for monsters after growing up, seeing Billy, who is a puppet, in the horror film just might lead you to check beneath the bed again.

While the doll was never referred to as Billy in the movie, it was referred to as the Billy Doll by the writers.

The tuxedo-clad doll with its signature tricycle symbolized a bad omen and was a sign of things to come.

Poltergeist

This is the movie that made the notion of an evil clown popular in pop culture. Poltergeist will be the reason why you will never like clowns again, especially when the sinister clown doll attempts to kill the kid.

Amityville Dollhouse

Imagine if an innocent-looking doll house for children turns out to be a haven for supernatural activities. The eighth film in the popular Amityville franchise, the chest full of dolls in the doll house - a miniature replica of the haunted house of the owners - is demonic beyond belief and will send a chill down your spine.

Magic

There's something inherently creepy about puppets, and Magic takes full advantage of the premise. This psychological thriller stars Anthony Hopkins, a failed magician, as a ventriloquist who is at the bidding of his warped dummy Fats. This thriller is definitely not for the fainthearted.

Dolls

What happens when you put over a dozen crazed, creepy-looking dolls in one place? A story called Dolls takes place. All the dolls in this horror film are possessed by souls who are immortal. They are under the curse of witches and are compelled to pay for their misdeeds. Being trapped in the dolls is their punishment. So what do they do? What most haunted dolls in popular culture do - go around brutally killing people randomly!

May

Suzie from the movie May is yet another doll that will give you the chills. Given as a birthday present, the doll was made by the protagonist May's mother, who said: "If you can't find a friend, make one." The glass-encased Suzie thus becomes her only real friend. This insane movie packs in cannibalism and is pretty eerie, especially the relationship shared by May and Suzie, which has its bizarre moments.

Tales from the Hood

This movie revolves around an African-American themed horror story. Three drug dealers learn four bizarre horror stories from a funeral director.
