Jeremy Clarkson Sacked From 'Top Gear' By BBC: Twitter Reacts

The BBC has done the brave thing by slamming down the hammer on Jeremy Clarkson's career as the main man on Top Gear. The network revealed earlier today that the popular presenter has been fired, and now the hunt is on for a suitable replacement.

The rumors had been flying around for several hours, but then the confirmation came when BBC Director-General Tony Hall appeared on the scene with a statement.

"It is with great regret that I have told Jeremy Clarkson today that the BBC will not be renewing his contract. It is not a decision I have taken lightly," says Hall. "I have done so only after a very careful consideration of the facts and after personally meeting both Jeremy and Oisin Tymon."

For those who are wondering what actually happened, well, Clarkson both physically and verbally assaulted Tymon on March 4. Tymon is the Top Gear producer, and it is said he suffered a full 30 seconds worth of physical assault from Clarkson. Ironically, Clarkson was claiming he was going to get Tymon sacked.

Clarkson has always been a man of controversy, whether it be on camera or off. However, despite his shortcomings where decency is concerned, he still manages to find a warm spot in the heart of fans. Because of this, the BBC will have a difficult task finding a replacement who can entertain in the same manner Clarkson.

Already, many fans have vowed to be done with the show, which gives Clarkson and his team a great advantage. We suspect several other networks are lining up at the moment to hire Clarkson, in hopes to create a show similar to Top Gear. Should this move turn out to be successful, then the BBC would likely find itself in an awkward position.

No one can underestimate a man with over 4 million followers on Twitter.

While we've heard a lot of what Clarkson did to Tymon, we've heard nothing of what could have triggered him to act out such a manner. The BBC hasn't said a word, and Clarkson has yet to make a public statement on his sacking. We hope to learn more in the coming days as this story unfolds.
