Ever since Jon Stewart announced he would be stepping down from The Daily Show later this year, we have all been wracking our brains trying to figure out who might replace him. There have been a lot of names thrown out there over the past month or so, but Comedy Central may have finally found someone to replace Stewart.

Current Daily Show contributor Trevor Noah is on the short list to replace Stewart, someone familiar with the matter told Variety. However, no final decision has been made, so this doesn't mean Noah will for sure replace Stewart. He is just reportedly under consideration.

But I'm just happy that we at least now have a glimmer of a successor for Stewart on The Daily Show. No, Noah is not the woman, i.e. Tina Fey, that many people were hoping would take over The Daily Show, but if selected to lead Comedy Central's late-night satirical political show, he would be a welcome fresh face.

So who is Trevor Noah, anyway? Unless you're a diehard Daily Show viewer, you might not know too much about him. Well, now is as good a time any to get to know Noah. Shall we?

Noah is from South Africa, and he's kind of the country's biggest comedian right now. He has sold more DVDs than any other stand-up comedian from the African continent, according to his official website. Noah also hosted his own late-night talk show in South Africa, as well as the country's music, television and film awards and the South African Comedy Festival. He was even the subject of a documentary called You Laugh But It's True, which chronicled Noah's rise to fame as a comedian in post-apartheid South Africa.

However, for the past few years, Noah has been making a name for himself in the United States. He became the first South African comedian to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.

Noah is actually pretty new to The Daily Show and has only appeared on it a few times. He made his debut on the show at the end of last year with a segment comparing race in the U.S. versus his home country of South Africa.

As you can see, if Comedy Central does end up choosing Noah to host The Daily Show, it's likely that the comedian will make the program his own by bringing more of an international perspective to it. From what we've seen of him so far, his comedy is definitely captivating. However, with the 2016 U.S. presidential election coming up, choosing Stewart's successor is an especially crucial decision. With that in mind, a host with more of an international point-of-view may not be the best way to go.

Still, I'd be interested to see more from Noah, whether it's on The Daily Show or elsewhere.
