We still haven't completely gotten over the loss of Leonard Nimoy who famously portrayed Spock in the Star Trek TV series and films. However, an upcoming documentary about Leonard Nimoy and the beloved character will help the world celebrate the life and legacy of the actor for years to come.

Leonard Nimoy's son Adam Nimoy recently told Variety that a documentary about his father and Spock is in the works. The documentary titled For the Love of Spock will be directed by Adam Nimoy and is intended to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, which premiered on Sept. 8, 1966 on NBC. Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in J.J. Abrams' recent film reboots of the franchise and who was also close friends with Leonard Nimoy, will narrate the documentary.

Adam Nimoy told Variety that he and his father began discussing plans for the documentary several months before his passing, even speaking about it just two days before Leonard Nimoy died on Feb. 27, 2015 after suffering from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The documentary will focus on how the character of Spock and Nimoy's portrayal of him have remained an essential part of pop culture for almost 50 years. William Shatner, who famously played Star Trek's captain of the Starship Enterprise James T. Kirk, has agreed to appear in the documentary, according to Adam Nimoy. The film may also pull material from Leonard Nimoy's two autobiographies, I Am Not Spock and I Am Spock, and recordings of the actor.

The 50th anniversary of Star Trek is sure to be a momentous occasion in 2016. The third installment of the Star Trek movie reboot has already been confirmed to fly into theaters on July 8, 2016 with Justin Lin as director. With such a significant anniversary on the way, there are sure to be plenty more commemorative events and specials in the pipeline.
